Grand River GreenUp Removes 8,800 Pounds of Refuse from Watershed
An estimated 250 volunteers came out on Saturday, June 1, to clean up a 20-mile stretch of the Grand River for the Third Annual Grand River GreenUp. Hosted by WMEAC and the Grand Haven Area Jaycees, what would have been the region’s largest Earth Day service event was rescheduled due to intense spring flooding.
Volunteers removed 8,800 pounds of trash from the river, recycling some 4,880 pounds (55%) of collected items.
The Third Annual Grand River GreenUp was made possible by in part by a donation from the Youth Fund of the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation. Lead sponsors for the event include izzy+ and ReNue Salon & Day Spa.
